Other Physical Details: Broad, flat face. Cauliflower ears. Scars from his cheeks all the way down his thick neck. Usually dresses in sloppy, flamboyant clothes that include a too-small derby hat and an open shirt. Rarely seen without a blackjack in his belt, brass knuckles on both hands, and a tame pigeon on his shoulder.

About: Born Edward Eastman. Got his nickname for shimmying through windows like a monkey to carry out burglaries. Jewish leader of the Eastman Gang. (see Places and Organizations) Originally hails from Corlear's Hook. Sometimes works as a bouncer at New Irving Hall or Silver Dollar Smith's Saloon. Vulgar and violent, with a taste for prostitutes despite his marriage in 1896 to a woman named Mary Parks. A fierce rival of Paul Kelly.

About: First name: Evelyn. Laidback, loving landlady of the Greenwich Village newsgirls. Freed from slavery in Richmond, Virginia when she was eleven, after which she moved to New York with her mother. Widowed when her husband, Gregory, was stabbed during a brawl in his own saloon. Has three children: Gregory, Jr., who moved out west; Arthur, who took over his father's saloon and lives above it; and Theodosia ("Theo" or "Trill"), former leader of the Greenwich Village newsgirls, who's now 20 years old and off somewhere pursuing a singing career.
